Heyx! Yeah, I know that i haven been writing much but I'm trying my best to squeeze in time in my hectic JC life to constantly update this blog. Anyway, This entry will be about my day at the National Stadium for the Asean Championship between Malaysia and Singapore. Yay!
Ok, I'm not sure what time I reached the stadium but it was pretty crowded and my dad had to drop us off in front of the stadium first before driving off to find a parking lot. My 2nd aunt, 3rd aunt and my cousin went with my family too. At 8pm, we sang the National Anthem. There were lots of people jeering at the Malaysian flag as well as the Malaysian National Anthem. Some even refused to stand up during the Malaysian National Anthem and only stood up for the Singapore National Anthem! I was seriously disgusted by their lack of respect and ugly Singaporean attitude but at least they were patriotic. When the Singapore flag and the Singapore players appeared, people all around were cheering and whistling, making lots of noises to cheer the players on. They even sang the national Anthem with pride!
At 8.03pm, the first half of the match started. The singapore players were not really performing as well as I had expected. The players kept on passing the ball to one another, giving the opponents plenty of opportunities to steal the ball away. They were also show in their reaction. The ball could be right in front of them but yet it took them a few seconds before they realised it. By then, the opponents would have caught up with them. Despite all that, the Sinagpore team managed to gat close to the goal many times. Though they tried their best, they kept on missing the goal. In the end,the first half ended off with 0-0.
The second half resumed at 9.04pm. While the game went on, a boy sitting behind me with his father asked his father why the goalie could run outside of the goal. The father replied that the goalie was not only restricted to the goal and besides, if he couldn't run, what else could he do? I thought that it was pretty hilarious at that moment.
Only 15 mins of the second half and Malaysia scored a goal. The ball went over the Singapore goalie and entered the goal. Though the ball was already in the goal, the goalie still quickly got up from his horizontal position and hugged the ball. It was quite a comical sight but no one seemed to notice as they were probably mad about the fact that Malaysia had scored because of pure luck.
The rest of the second half was a tense moment for Singapore. The crowd were doing their best screaming and cheering, motivating the Singapore players while also jeering at the Malaysia team to dampen their spirits. Then came 9.36pm, the moment that we have all been waiting for. Singapore scored a goal! It happened so fast that I did not know how Singapore scored but from the newspapers, it was said that the player who was wearing a number '2' jersey had scored it for Singapore!
Nearing the end of the second half, the Malaysian goalie got injured twice. I'm not sure if it was fake but he was lying on the grass. People in the stadium started jeering and throwing rubbish all over the field. The second hald finally ended with 1-1.
The penalty kocks were the deciding factor as to which team would win. Once again, the spectators were cheering all the way for Singapore and jeering at Malaysia. At thelast shot from Malaysia, the player kicked and the ball was caught by the goalie! We screamed like carzy and hugged one another. We won!
Although I am not really into soccer, watching it in the stadium is definitely more thrilling than watching it from the television!
